Herbal Remedies for Sinus Infection

Even with the existence of numerous medications for sinus infections, herbal remedies are becoming more popular with each day. Alternatively, one can use eucalyptus tea to treat sinus infections. Again, one can steep eucalyptus into cup of boiling water, then inhale the scent that it produces. This can be used to have the nasal passages unblocked.

Ginger. For the longest time ginger has been used to prevent and relieve headaches. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory and it also has contents that can be used to relieve pain. Ginger can be taken as capsules or as directed by physician or herbalist.

Another herb that can be used as a herbal remedy for sinus infection is licorice. This herb’s root can be used to stimulate the immune system and also reduce inflammation. Two types of licorice exist, one for treating cancer and another for sinus infections. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure that one uses the licorice meant for sinus infections and not that for treating ulcers. Again, licorice is not recommended for people with high blood pressure.

Coneflower. This is an all round herb used for stimulating the immune system. It can be used to cure sinus infections but not completely heal them. Goldenseal is another herb with both antiviral and antibacterial properties hence can be used to relief pain caused by the sinus infection. Other herbal remedies for sinus infections may include Jamaican dogwood, eye bright, wild indigo, peppermint, Echinacea, lemon balm among others. Even though herbal remedies for sinus infections are better alternative for treating the condition, it is important to always consult a physician before using them especially if under commercial medication.
